Aperture
As designers, It is becoming more important to design residential spaces which can provide a refuge from the increasing complexity of urban life. Ballard Aperture is located one of the busiest streets in the Ballard neighborhood and the design of the townhomes responds to the added sound, light, and elements that come with it. The cedar facade and a high performance envelope help to filter out these added elements and complexities.
Details
Continuing the aperture concept on the interior of the project was important, but it also created unique elements and details. A steel the screening element from the exterior was carried unto the interior stair where one of the wood slats was replaced with steel to provide the necessary structure for the stair.
