Below is a video and pictures of the pile foundation system being utilized for the Madison Park house, currently under construction. There are two types of piles going into the house: The first is the Helical piles that are rotated into the ground at an angle to create lateral stability, and after they will be attached to large concrete beams located under the future slab supported by 6" steel pipes driven straight down by pile drivers that handle the gravity loads.
This type of system is necessary when you build a home over sub-standard soils, or when you need extra stability for a steep slope sites by getting their strength through friction with the earth up to 40' below grade. When tied together with the concrete grade beams and slab the foundation system becomes as strong if not stronger than a traditional foundation.
